Welcome to Grand Rapids Fencing Academy, home to West Michigan’s finest fencing instruction. Under the direction of co-owners Mikhail and Arkadiy Sarkisov, accredited Masters of Fencing, GRAFA offers fencing programs for all ages, from beginner to advanced. Our academy provides both the competitive and the recreational fencer a facility where they can develop their skills to their greatest potential through the active implementation of world-class training programs, competitions, and team sport. It is our mission to develop each fencer to his or her ability and to promote the sportsmanship, passion, and camaraderie of fencing within the West Michigan community.

Mark your calendars and get your sign up sheets ready. GRAFA has an exciting spring and summer planned for fencing camps. We will be hosting our traditional fencing camps in the spring and summer, as well as a new series involving internationally renowned fencers who will join us to teach camps during the summer. Preparing for Nationals!

We have been receiving many requests for information about Nationals. Starting next week we will have a sign up sheet for everyone who is interested to give us their e-mails and phone numbers so that we can contact you to set up a date and time for a group meeting. Just a head's up, so look for the sign-up sheet!

Since snow and bad weather are inevitable, be sure to check WOOD TV 8 for weather closings. If our name is not on the closings list and Grand Rapids Public School has cancelled, we will be as well! Also, be sure to sign up for our text message system and closings will be sent to your phone!

Fencers should bring an extra pair of shoes that are not worn outside during the winter months. We would like to keep our floors nice and our fencers safe!(If they own fencing shoes, disregard this message)

GRAFA Looking for Part Time Coach

Due to unprecedented growth in membership and the high demand for fencing instruction and private lessons, GRAFA is looking for an experienced part time coach. The position will be working under the supervision of head coaches Mikhail and Arkadiy Sarkisov. The coach will be teaching intermediate level classes in foil and epee as well as giving private lessons. The coach must also be available for weekend travel to local and national tournaments. Summer Announcements 2009

ATTENTION ALL FENCERS AND PARENTS:

As we all know, our academy becomes quite hot in the summer and in the interest of keeping your fencers safe, if the temperature goes above 90 we will be cancelling our classes. Sorry for any inconvenience!
Also July 5th to the 9th will be closed for the week of the fourth! Have a great break and cool off! Normal classes will resume on the following Monday, the 13th of July.

Beginning Fencing Camp

 

Want to try something new and exciting this summer? Join us for an action packed week of Olympic style fencing! We will cover the basics of fencing footwork and bladework in a fun and exciting environment that kids will love! All you need is flexible clothing and tennis shoes. We provide all other equipment and some snacks. Beat the heat and come learn a cool, new sport!

Congratulations to Alexa Prasher

Alexa Prasher took a phenomenal 5th place in the Y10 event at the North American Cup in Portland, Oregon. This was Alexa's first Nationals and makes Alexa the fourth GRAFA student who currently has National points on the National Points List. This is a very impressive achievement and GRAFA is very proud of Alexa!
